Mandarmoni is a peaceful beach destination on the
border of West Bengal and Orissa. It lies in the East Medinipur district of
West Bengal. It is one of the popular beaches in Bengal. The defiant waves
shattering against those concrete steps can take your breath away. Fishermen
sailing into the deep seas each evening are a common sight here. The beguiling
sea is the main attraction of this place. And if you are planning a trip here
and it would be easy to get a hotel in
Mandarmoni. It is one of those places which you can visit throughout the
year. So what is it that sets this beach apart from the other beaches in East India?
It is mainly the unruly sea. It is a treat to hear the roar of the waves and
the way its mood shifts throughout the day.
If you are in Mandarmoni, you can also plan to visit
Digha which is just a few kilometers away. Digha is divided into Old and New
Digha. As far as staying options are concerned, there are ample and good hotels
in both places. The sea beach at New Digha is suitable for bathing. You can
also enjoy a pony ride or relax with coconut water. This is a more crowded
place but if you opt for a solitary holiday, then choose Old Digha. There are
tea stalls lined up along the beach where you can enjoy the soft glow of the
early morning sun. Impressed by its beauty, Warren Hastings, the Governor
General of British India referred to this place as the ‘Brighton of the East.’
Besides the sea there are other places of interest
as well. There is the Amravati Park in the town. It encourages horticulture and
you will find various kinds of flora and fauna here. There is a lake in the
middle of the park where you can enjoy the boat ride. If you are in Digha with
family, then this is the perfect place to take them to. There is also the state
run aquarium and a science museum. There is a casuarina farm as well where you
can learn how the fruit is cultivated. This is a big draw for tourists and
located near the Orissa-West Bengal border.
At Mandarmoni, you can also visit the Mohona or
estuary. There is a fish market nearby where crabs, lobsters, and a variety of
fishes are available. Enjoy the rickshaw rides. Hire a local rickshaw if you
want to visit the places of interest within the area like the Mohona. You would
not come across such rickshaws in the cities. Hence, they form a part of the
Mandarmoni attraction too. If you want to get around Mandarmoni, then the
easiest way is to hire a car and explore Shankarpur and Tajpur beaches which
are just a few kilometers away.
